Welcome to the opening round of the2013 TRITON SHOWERS South East Stages Rally Championship, the recognised ‘clubman’ rally championship. We thank TRITON SHOWERS for again sponsoring the championship. Thanks also to the Munster Motor Club for hosting the 2012 awards night in Lismore.
We all had a fantastic night and Pascal O’Shea and Robbie Hennessey proved popular and deserving winners. Pascal paid tribute to all who support, promote and organise the events that are the TRITON SHOWERS South East Stages Rally Championship. He particularly thanked the unseen and unsung people who never see any of the action. And to reiterate the point of this clubman rally championship, the winning car was a 1600 Ford Escort MK2 from Class 2.
Again the 2012 TRITON SHOWERS South East Stages Rally Championship went to the wire with any one of three crews in the hunt to win the championship. The bonus points system has continued to add to the championship, allowing competitors to either make up on a ‘lost’ event or to leapfrog up the standings. This becomes most noticeable from about the third round onwards.
Both the forest and tarmac events are well supported and although the forestry specialists may seem to have a head start this usually evens out around the time of the second tarmac event. The Valvoline National Forestry Championship has really taken off this year, and as three 2013 TRITON SHOWERS South East Stages Rally Championship are also counting rounds, perhaps more of the forestry competitors will make a foray onto a few tarmac events.
As ever the format and structure of the 2013 TRITON SHOWERS South East Stages Rally Championship allows competitors approach their years rallying on a cost competitive basis. Being a class based championship it’s possible for a crew from any of the six classes to be the outright winner.
We would encourage competitors to canvass the support of their fellow competitors who may not intend to compete in the championship to register for the 2013 TRITON SHOWERS South East Stages Rally Championship. On occasions in the past some crews, although wining their class, were denied maximum points due to insufficient numbers starting some events.
Once again this year, taking cognisance of the current state of the economy and to encourage competitors to register and compete in TRITON SHOWERS South East Stages Rally Championship, the scoring format requires that only three crew need to start in their class to score maximum points (15), two starters (12) points and one starter (10) points.
